Obituary for Mary Lois Martin (Brinegar)

Mary Lois Martin (Brinegar)
Mary Lois Martin, 80, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Cox South Medical Center. Mary was born January 28, 1938 in Collins, Missouri, the daughter of Walter Brinegar and Sylvia Greene. Mary grew up on the farm in Collins, Missouri. Through the years, she remained close to all of the dear friends that she grew up with. As a young lady, Mary met the love of her life, Vernon Martin, on a blind date set up by a few of their mutual friends. The two married in 1956. They soon had their first daughter, Rebecca, and then moved to Minnesota where they had their second daughter, Cheryl. In 1967, the family moved to Riverside, California where they lived until returning to Missouri in 1993.

While her kids were growing up, Mary did it all. She cooked, cleaned, and sewed all their clothes for school and church, all while working a full time job. When her grandchildren were born, Mary developed a new love in life. Each of her grandchildren put another sparkle in her eye. She continued to sew clothes for the grandbabies, and would bend over backwards to do anything for them. She treasured every moment she got to spend with them, especially through carrying on their tradition of having Sunday lunch as a family. Although the grandchildren continued to grow, they never got too big to sit on their Nanny’s lap when given the opportunity.

Mary was a true servant of God. Her memory lives on through the stories of her constant display of love, patience and joy. She went out of her way to help others on a daily basis and was always the first one to reach out to anyone if they were having a hard time. She had a true love of her Lord and Savior that she passed on to her family and those around her.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Beverly Brinegar.

Mary is survived by her husband, Vernon Martin; her children, Rebecca Martin and her husband, Colin Steinke, and her son, Joshua; and Cheryl Denny and her husband Christopher, and their children, Rachel, Lauren, Annalise and Alexander; her brother, Willard Brinegar, and his children Brian, David and his wife, Robin, and Laura.

A memorial service will be held on January 19, 2019 at 10:00 am at Crossway Baptist Church, 2900 N Barnes Ave, Springfield, MO 65803.
