Manuel Ferias DeMelo, age 79, Died Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at 6:45 pm in Cox South Medical Center.

He retired to Battlefield, MO. from Somerset, Massachusetts in 2005 from Davol where he worked for 28 years to be closer to his son and grandchildren.

Born in the Azores on the island of St. Michael in the village of Santa Barbara on September 14, 1939 to his parents Manuel and Anna DeMelo. He joined the Portuguese Army in 1961 to 1964.

Manuel married his wife Maria on September 9, 1967 then moved to the United States.

He is survived by his wife, Maria DeMelo; his son, George DeMelo; his grandson, Aiden J. DeMelo; granddaughter, Addison P. DeMelo; and grandson, Ian G. DeMelo; brothers, Agostinho DeMelo, Mariana DeMelo; sister, Conceicao Borges from Fall River, Massachusetts.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremias DeMelo of Winnipeg, Canada; sister, Maria Aguiar of Fall River, Massachusetts.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, tinkering with projects and sitting outside.

A Mass will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2200 W. Republic Road, Springfield, MO.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri.
