Virginia “Ginny” A. Jahnke, 87, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at The Gardens, Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born on March 10, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Rose Morello.
She met her husband Bob, on a blind date in Maywood, Illinois who she was married to for over half a century. After moving to Missouri in 1977, she spent most of her career at Southwest Missouri State University as an office administrator for various departments. Even after retirement, she remained an avid Bears fan and enjoyed attending many Missouri State Ice Bears games with her family.
Ginny loved the outdoors including fishing, hiking, and traveling but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She never missed a school or sporting activity.
Ginny is proceeded in death by her husband, Bob. She is survived by: their four children, James, Bobby (wife Shana), Anmarie (husband Steve), Cindy (husband Steve); three grandchildren, Elizabeth (husband David), Christopher (wife Grace), and Lindsey; two great grandchildren, Bella and Landon.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2025 at St. Agnes Cathedral: 533 S. Jefferson, Springfield Missouri 65806, with Father Lewis Hejna as celebrant. Immediately following, the burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery: 4677 W. Divison Street, Springfield Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on behalf of Ginny Jahnke.
