Thursa June MacLean passed away peacefully on October 10, 2026. Thursa was born January 18, 1934, in Webster County, Missouri, to Lloyd and Jessie Hargus.
In 1944, at the age of 10, her family moved to Southern California, where she would spend much of her life.
After graduating from Hollywood High School, Thursa joined the Lockheed Corporation. She began as a mail runner and quickly advanced to a corporate secretary. She worked with aviation legends Kelly Johnson, Walter LaBerge, and Russ Hopps and made many lifelong friendships. She is even credited with naming the Lockheed TriStar aircraft.
Thursa married Greg MacLean in 1956. He, too, worked at Lockheed as an engineer, and together they enjoyed a life of love, faith, community, and adventure.
In 1986, Thursa and Greg adopted 10-year-old Rebecca, who was the perfect addition to their family and made their lives even more complete. From that moment on, their life together was filled with a deeper kind of love, and the time they shared as a family became their greatest adventure of all.
Thursa was a beauty inside and out; her energy and love of life were always evident. She loved to throw parties, to cook gourmet meals, and to tell stories. She could be hosting Emerald Evening, Chrism Mass celebrations, or sitting by the pool with Greg and Fr. Dave. She had a flair and loved creating memories with others.
Thursa had a deep faith and love of community. She believed everyone should be treated with respect and kindness—animals, too. Their house was always filled with rescue pets, each of whom they loved until the end.
For years, Thursa volunteered by washing and ironing church vestments, delivering communion to nursing homes, and serving at St. Vincent de Paul. She took great joy sitting in the front of the church, listening to the choir.
Thursa is survived by her daughter, Rebecca MacLean; three sisters, Marian Spaulding, Emma Lewis (Larry), and Martha McCardle (Roger); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Greg MacLean; her brother, Donald Hargus; her sister, Elaine Nye; and her parents, Lloyd and Jessie Hargus.
A debt of gratitude is owed to our friends at The Montclair, Phoenix Healthcare, Phoenix Hospice, and Jacob’s Ladder. You’ve all been a constant source of care and support for my mother and father. We thank you for this kindness.
As Ram Dass said, “We are all just walking each other home.”
