Nancy Sue Athen

Nancy Sue Athen, 78, Buffalo, MO passed on to heaven Friday, June 27 in Woodland Manor, Springfield, with her husband Dennis by her side. She was born on November 23, 1946 in Fargo, North Dakota to Addison “Bud” and Beall Thomas. She was a retired administrative secretary for the Missouri Department of Corrections and Missouri Department of Natural Resources at Big Lake. Nancy loved gardening, crafts, and camping, especially volunteering as campground hosts with Dennis at Big Lake, Stockton, and other state parks. She loved going to music shows in Branson. Nancy was very proud of her grandsons and loved attending their band competitions and football games. Nancy had a heart for Jesus. She was active in church throughout her life, and was a member of the Fair Grove United Methodist Church.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Thomas, and brother-in-law, Larry Athen. She is survived by her husband Dennis, son and daughter-in-law Brian and Carla, and grandsons Grant and Carter; sister-in-laws Gay, Joan, and Marianne, and brother-in-law Kent. Aunt Nancy is loved by multiple nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at the Fair Grove United Methodist Church, Fair Grove, Missouri on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2025 at 11:00am. A lunch and fellowship will be immediately after the service.
