Myril Wayne Stewart

Myril proudly served in the United States Navy for 23 years, where he achieved the rank of Chief Yeoman. Following his military service, he continued a life of leadership and service, spending 20 years as the head of parking at Missouri State University.

Myril enjoyed “schooling the young’uns” on the basketball court, proving that experience could still give youth a run for its money. He was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Nebraska Cornhuskers and had an immense love of golf. Whether he was playing a round, watching his favorite teams, or showing the younger generation a thing or two on the basketball court, sports were a big part of the life he enjoyed.

Some of Myril’s happiest moments were spent near the water. He loved being on the beach, relaxing by the ocean and listening to Jimmy Buffett.

While those who loved Myril will feel his absence deeply, there is comfort in knowing that his pain is gone and he is now at peace in the presence of the Lord. As 2 Corinthians 5:8 reminds us, “to be absent from the body” is “to be present with the Lord.” His family will carry his love, guidance, and memory with them always, finding comfort in the belief that this goodbye is not forever.

Myril will be deeply missed, but the wisdom he shared, the lives he touched, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Myril is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Billie Stewart; his daughter, Vanessa Stewart; his son, Jerry Stewart; his daughter-in-law, Julie Stewart; his brothers, Daniel Stewart and David Stewart; his sister, Sharon Devine; and his three grandchildren, Lexie and Logan Stewart, and Jaylee Stewart.

Visitation will be from 5 pm to 7 pm Wednesday September 16, 2026 at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield. Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday September 17, 2026 at Messiah Lutheran Church 925 E. Seminole Street, Springfield with Pastor Orin Cummings officiating. Committal service with military honors will follow at 1 pm at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church in Myril's memory.
