Monroe Leslie Wilkerson

Monroe Leslie “Monty” Wilkerson went to his eternal home on May 26, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 79.

Monty was born on December 6, 1946, in Boonville, Missouri, to Monroe Conway Wilkerson and Marian Lee (Williamson) Wilkerson. They preceded him in death, along with one brother, Kelly Wilkerson.

Monty attended Laura Speed Elliott High School in Boonville, Missouri, where he graduated in 1964. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Marketing in 1968 from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, where he was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. In 1971, he returned to the university on the GI Bill to complete coursework toward a master’s degree in business.

He was inducted into the United States Army in January 1969 and honorably discharged in January 1971. During his service, Monty was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, where he worked in finance and payroll.

Monty devoted 31 years to a successful career as a pharmaceutical sales representative with Marion Laboratories, Hoffmann-La Roche, and Merck Sharp & Dohme. He was known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and the relationships he built throughout his career.

Monty especially enjoyed spending summers at Table Rock Lake, where he loved boating, fishing, and sharing time with family and friends. He also cherished the summers he spent in Alaska. In his later years, one of his greatest joys was his weekly Monday afternoon computer visits with his brother, Roe, a tradition he faithfully looked forward to each week.

Monty is survived by his daughter, Amy Wissbaum and husband Joe of Conway, Missouri; two grandchildren, Lauren Wissbaum of Conway, Missouri, and Hunter Wissbaum (Makenzie) of Conway, Missouri; one great-grandson, Henry Wissbaum of Conway, Missouri; and one brother, Roe Wilkerson (Paula) of Urbandale, Iowa.

Monty was a loving and proud father and “Poppie”. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
