Michael Anthony Huffington, age 62, passed away in his home on January 5, 2026. He was born on August 7, 1963, in Moberly, Missouri to James Clifton Huffington and Helen Lunetta Keegan Huffington.
Mike attended grade school at St. Pius X Catholic School and graduated from Madison High School in Madison, Missouri. After graduation, he joined the Army. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, M-16 Sharpshooter and Expert Hand Grenade Awards.
On October 9, 1991, he began working at Bass Pro Shops in the Fabrication Shop as a carpenter and later as manager. He worked on every Bass Pro Store, Big Cedar Lodge, Top of the Rock, Dogwood Canyon and many, many other projects. He was a very skilled and talented craftsman. Mike worked for Bass Pro for 34 years.
While working at Bass Pro, he met his best friend, who became his wife. Mike and Margaret Stark Throgmorton were married on September 5, 1998. They loved sitting on their porch enjoying each other’s company, making plans for the future and solving the world’s problems.
Each Spring and Summer, he enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and Lake of the Ozarks with his brothers and friends.
Mike attended St. Susanne Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon. He was a Third Degree Knight and had served as Grand Knight at St. Susanne Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three stepchildren, Melissa (Joe) Javurek of Holiday Island, Arkansas, Nathan Fleener of Salem, Missouri, Samantha (Brian) Gipson of Republic, Missouri; three grandchildren, Riley (Tyler) Dale, Morgan Gipson, and Nikolas Javurek.
Also surviving are his three sisters, Theresa (Richard) Rogers, Patricia (Darren) Schuman, Christine (Steve) Ruble; two brothers, Dan (Debbie) Huffington, Tom (Stacy) Huffington; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Huffington, and his grandson, Zakary Javurek.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday Evening, January 16, 2026, at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri.
Mike’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, January 17, 2026, at St. Susanne Catholic Church, 720 W. Sloan Street in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri with Full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Rescue One. Mike adopted his best friend, Willie, from Rescue One.
