Lillie "Peach" Juanita Mathis, 95, of Preston, MO passed away peacefully in the arms of her daughter in her home on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
She was born on July 23, 1931 in Atherton, MO to Joseph and Floralice Yates. She was the 6th of 9 children and the youngest daughter. She received her education from the school in Cross Timbers, MO. She was baptized at 8 into The Church of Christ Templelot, and was a devoted follower of God.
She married Johnny Mathis in the summer of 1954, and this union brought them three wonderful children; Tonya Renaye Mathis (Randy Livingston), Kimber Layne Mathis (Michelle Denney), Sterling Doyce Mathis (Melissa Mashburn), and one adopted son Mike Hendrix (Donna).
She had many careers throughout her life, but will always be remembered for starting the Hotel of Terror in 1978. She was lovingly called the Queen of Garage Sales because you could always catch her at a garage sale or thrift store. She loved a good pair of shoes, always had her hair done, and didn’t go anywhere without her face on and her pink lipstick. She made the best popcorn balls and put her whole heart into everything she did.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Johnny, 6 brothers, 1 sister, her son Kimber, and 1 great-granddaughter Samantha.
She is survived by 1 sibling (Oak), her daughter (Renaye) her son (Sterling and Melissa), her daughter-in-law (Michelle), 9 grandchildren (Jayson, Tierra (Jamie), Jensen (Andrea), Trevor (Kristina), Corbin (Felicia), Chantel (Michael), Indiana (James), Jordan, Parker), 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
