Leslie Lynn Vesey

Leslie Lynn Vesey, 54, of Hannibal, MO, went to her heavenly home the evening of Thursday, September 3, 2026, surrounded by those she loved in Nixa, MO.

Born on April 4, 1972, she was a daughter of Patricia (Kenzler) McMahan and later was lovingly adopted by Jimmy McMahan.

A week after she was born, the family moved to South Carolina where she was raised. In 1990, after graduating from Belton-Honea Path High School, Leslie attended Phillips Junior College in Greenville, SC., where she studied for 2 years in hopes to become an accountant. Later in life she returned to Missouri, as that is where she considered “home”. Through the years, she worked at a variety of places, with Ozarks Food Harvest being the most memorable. She was dearly referred to as their “Ray-O-Sunshine”.

Leslie was a member of True North Baptist Church, a decision she made to be closer to her family after receiving an Endometrial Cancer diagnosis in 2025. However, she had such a special place in her heart for the Pastor and her friends at Hillside Baptist Church of Springfield, MO.

Leslie will be remembered for her loving and giving spirit. She gave of her time and resources to help those in need, both physically and spiritually. Her love for Jesus and the mission of the Gospel was evident all the way until the very end. Most notably, she was involved in outreach programs like “Go Night” with Hillside Baptist Church and “Second Saturday Soul Care” (SSSC) with True North Baptist Church. She also gave through food drive donations benefiting Ozarks Food Harvest by attending the Turkey Trot and Lucas Oil Speedway activities, each year bringing her grandchildren and family. She volunteered with the backpack program, senior boxes and more during her time at OFH. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends during game nights, movie nights, theatre productions, travelling and more. Even through her cancer diagnosis and recurrence, she still found ways to prioritize other people. She truly was the best mom, grandma and gram and will be greatly missed.

Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy Allen McMahan and Patricia Mae McMahan and one sister, Carolyn McMahan.

She is survived by her children, Tiffany (Mark) Compier of Nixa, MO, Jonathon (Madison) Vesey of Frankford, MO and step-daughter Jacklyn Vesey of Greenville, SC; siblings, Daniel (Tara) Saylors of Anderson, SC and Teresa (Eric) Merriweather of Townville, SC; grandchildren, Madison Compier, Johannes ‘Hans’ Compier, and Anneke Compier of Nixa, MO, Jaden Arnold, Kaden Arnold, and Elizabeth Vesey of Frankford, MO and Jazlyn Vesey, Ezekiel Vesey, and Audrey Vesey of Greenville, SC; honorary grandchildren, Caitlyn Nix, Liberty Nix, Luke Nix and Xander Harmon of Republic, MO, as well as many special family members and friends.

The family would like to thank CoxHealth At Home Hospice for their support and the exceptional care they provided Leslie during this difficult time.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hillside Baptist Church, 8366 MO-266 Springfield, MO 65802. Pastor Tracy Nix of True North Baptist Church will officiate with the assistance of Pastor John Bingham of Hillside Baptist Church.

Following the service, a meal will be provided at Hillside Baptist Church for all friends and family wishing to attend.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to your local church or the American Cancer Society to further research Endometrial Cancer and recurrences.
