John David (J.D.) Thompson, Springfield, MO, passed away Monday, July 27th, 2026 in his home.
He was born October 22nd, 1957 in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Charles (Chuck) Robert Thompson and Paula Maxine (Williams) Thompson.
Born into a military family that was transfered often in his early years. After a tour in Guam, his father left the military and they settled in Clinton, OK which was his mother's hometown. He graduated high school in Clinton, OK in 1975. He married Cardova Martin in 1976 and had 4 children.
J.D. worked for several years in the oil and gas fields of western Oklahoma for Halliburton. He loved telling stories about this time and the oil field work. After the gas boom slowed down, he moved his family to Springfield, MO. Here he worked for Springfield Public Schools as a carpenter until Retirement.
J.D. loved working in his shop on a variety of projects. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and old western TV shows. However, his absolute passion was his children and their families.
Proceded in death by his father and mother; Charles Robert Thompson and Paula Maxine (Williams) Thompson, and his brother Steven Patrick Thompson.
Survived by his 4 children: Jonathan Thompson, wife Mandy and their children Logan, Triston, and Adam; Mathew Thompson, wife Cindy and their children Ethan and Annabell; Sarah Sanchez, husband Anthony and their children Justin, Abigail and KayDee; William Thompson, wife Eliza and their children Wilder and Willow; and their mother Cardova (Cordi) VanWert. He is also survivied by his brother Mark William Thompson and wife Jayne.
Visitation will be held at 12:30pm Saturday, August 1st, 2026 at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, MO. Service will follow the visitation at 1:30pm.
