Jerrod Lee Curl, 48 years old of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He was born in Springfield, Missouri on August 16, 1977, to Jody Curl Ellis and Darrell Curl.
Jerrod grew up in Mt. Vernon Missouri, attending all years of K-12 education in the Mt. Vernon school district. In a town as small as Mt. Vernon, with a personality as big as Jerrod’s, it is safe to say everyone knew him. Jerrod left a lasting impression on the Mt. Vernon community. Upon graduating from high school, Jerrod moved to Springfield, Missouri where he remained.
In Springfield, Jerrod was employed by a variety of local call centers and downtown restaurants and bars. He is well remembered for his many years bartending and managing Billiards of Springfield. During this time, Jerrod made countless close friends whom he loved, and in turn loved him, dearly.
Jerrod was passionate about many things, none more so than music, comedy, and the river.
Jerrod was a regular presence in the Springfield music scene while also traveling extensively to follow his favorite bands. He was lovingly welcomed by staff and musicians at most of the downtown Springfield venues through the early 2000’s. Although he didn’t perform, those who did remember him fondly.
Jerrod was a fan of stand-up comedy from a young age and was instrumental in bringing live comedy back to Springfield. While managing Billiards, Jerrod converted their little used venue space, The Blue Room, into a full functioning comedy club, which was eventually moved to a different location to accommodate bigger acts.
If you were to ask Jerrod of his favorite thing in the world, he would undoubtedly tell you, “floating the river with friends.” He would never turn down an invitation to a river trip, planning many of them, including several annual trips that served as reunions for several of his friend groups.
Jerrod always had a smile and was a kind, loving, and caring person. He would, and often did, give all he had to help someone in need. Jerrod was the definition of a “best friend.” To know Jerrod was to love him.
He is survived by his mother Jody Ellis and father Darrell Curl (Karen), sisters Amber Curl and Haley Curl.
Jerrod is also survived by Sam (his “brother by his other mother,” Sheila-Momma 2, Chris and April), Ashley Shelton and their three boys, whom Jerrod considered his nephews, Branch, Price, and Finn.
Jerrod is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins and extended family Jen, Eric, Cam and Tuck Eden.
He is preceded in death by his Granny Jean Cope, Grandparents Edna Mae Spillman and Joe Curl, and extended family Craig Ellis.
