George Donald Schultz Jr. passed on April 3, 2026, at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in June of 1956 at the old St John hospital in Springfield. He is the son of George D Schultz Sr and Norma F (Patterson) Salchow. He attended schools both in Springfield MO and in Mableton, Oakland, and Dawsonville GA, where he resided for a period of time with his father and stepmother Georgia F Schultz. He attended four years of tech school for his electrician apprenticeship degree. He worked in Georgia, Missouri, and New York as a master electrician. He was employed by various companies in Missouri through the IBEW union hall and retired at age 62.
George was preceded in death by his father, George Sr and his paternal grandparents, Henry and Anna Schultz, and his maternal grandparents, LeRoy and Gaylen Patterson, his aunt Donna Williamson, his uncles, Joe, Carl, Billy, and Robert Schultz.
George enjoyed many hobbies; gardening, landscaping, deer hunting, and fishing. With his motorcycle friends, he rode in the annual Toys for Tots and the Hogs for Dogs charity ride benefitting CARE Animal Rescue. They often met on Bike Night at the American Legion Post 639. He raised Akita and Weimaraner dogs, and remodeled old houses. He completely remodeled his first house in Springfield, and then after purchasing a second home in northwest Springfield, he built the outdoor storage shed, privacy fence, deck, and landscaped the yard. His favorite hobby was traveling to Alaska to fish for Salmon with his friend, Rob Findley, from Georgia. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and co-workers.
George is survived by his sister L. Ember Salchow, mother Norma Salchow, step-mother Georgia Schultz, aunt Caroline Salts, many Schultz family cousins and their families, and Cole family cousins, Susan, Cathy, Sharon, Jackie, George Lynn, Allen, Kenny, and their families. A nephew Chance McPhetridge, cousins Kevin Williamson and Renee Pellham and their families, and special friend Tom Royal and wife Sherry.
Visitation will be held at Herman Lohmeyer, 500 E Walnut St. Springfield, on Wednesday April 8 between 6:00 and 8:00PM. George will be placed to rest at the Bass Chapel Cemetery in Strafford MO, with a small family graveside service at 11:00 AM on Thursday April 9.
George loved his dogs, in lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his honor to CARE Animal Rescue, Rescue One Springfield, or the American Cancer Society.
