Darlene Ann Rodreick, 98, entered into the presence of her Lord on July 1, 2026.
Born on March 9, 1928, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to David and Pauline Tuvell, Darlene was always proud to be the “baby” of the family.
On September 2, 1947, she married the love of her life, Clyde, beginning a marriage that would span 68 years until his passing in 2015.
They settled in Springfield, Missouri where for 15 years they worked together and owned their insurance business.
Darlene lived life with enthusiasm and gratitude. She traveled internationally and visited all 50 states. She fulfilled her dream of seeing every accessable lighthouse in the United States, as well as several abroad. She enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, gardening, bird watching, relaxing at the beach, and caring for her beloved cats, whom she affectionately called “my girls.”
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She lovingly referred to her grandchildren as “the frosting on my cake” and often said they, along with her great-grandchildren, were her greatest blessing.
A devoted Catholic, Darlene’s faith guided every aspect of her life. She volunteered at St. John’s Hospital for 15 years, participated for many years in a quilting ministry that provided quilts for those experiencing homelessness, and was known by family and friends as a faithful prayer warrior. Rosaries were found throughout her home, and she often joked that she “prayed the beads off” them because she prayed so faithfully. Every morning she prayed, “I pray to be what I was created to be.”
Darlene enjoyed serving her community. Along with her dear friend, Mary Hopper, she owned the Maple Restaurant on North Glenstone in Springfield for seven years.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Ellwood; her son, Thomas Rodreick; her granddaughters, Kim Drees (Kris) and Jennifer Wellborn (Josh); and nine cherished great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clyde; her son, Michael, her daughter-in-law, Prudy; and her son-in-law, Ken. She also carried throughout her life the memory of her infant son Anthony David, whom she never forgot.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered prayers, love, and support during this time. They find comfort in the hope of Christ’s Resurrection and in the lasting legacy of faith, love, and service that Darlene leaves behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday July 6, 2026 with the Rosary at 10:00 a.m. & Mass at 11:00 a.m. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish 2200 W Republic Rd. Springfield, MO 65807 with Father Reidy officiating under the care of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Tuesday, July 7 at 1:00 p.m., Hazelwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton or Jacob’s Ladder.
