In Loving Memory of Daniel E. Blomgren July 19, 1937 – June 23, 2025
Fortified by the Last Sacrament of the Church, Daniel "Dan" E. Blomgren passed peacefully into eternal life on June 23, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by his devoted wife Carol, his daughter, and several of his cherished grandsons.
Born on July 19, 1937, in St. Paul, MN, to Elmer and Myrtle (Luth) Blomgren, Dan was grounded in faith and family from the start. After graduating from Johnson High School, he began a career with the Railroad—an ordinary job that would change his life in the most extraordinary way. There, he caught the attention of a fellow worker named Carol Erickson. As Dan often joked, “She was hard to miss.” That spark led to a lifetime of laughter, partnership, and devotion. They married on October 5, 1963, and shared 62 beautiful years together.
From the very beginning, Dan and Carol built their life around faith and family. Just after exchanging vows in St. Paul, MN, they set off on their journey together and soon made their home in St. Louis, MO. It was there they spent twenty beautiful years, embracing the rhythm of daily life and weaving themselves into the close-knit community at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Florissant—a place that quickly became not just their church, but their family.
When the time came for a new chapter, Dan and Carol brought their enduring faith with them to Springfield, where they found another spiritual home at Holy Trinity Parish. The warmth of that community, much like their first, wrapped around them like an embrace. Parish life wasn’t just a Sunday routine—it was the heartbeat of their days, the source of treasured friendships, and a reflection of their deep devotion. Dan offered his time and heart to so many aspects of church life: the men’s group, parish council, choir, and especially the spirited St. Patrick’s Day dinner, where laughter and fellowship were served in abundance. His commitment to the Church was quiet but unwavering, serving as a living example of a faithful Catholic man.
Dan’s humor was legendary. With a signature dry wit, he could reduce a room to laughter with a perfectly timed remark—and he often did. His family never tired of his one-liners, and Carol remained his number one fan, comedic partner, and best friend through every stage of life.
He was a man who found joy in the everyday: working in the garden, mowing the lawn, planting vegetables, or relaxing on the porch with Carol as the sun dipped low. The two were a team in every sense, whether hitting the gym together or cheering on their grandchildren at sports games and graduations. Their love was vibrant and visible, rooted in shared values and an enduring bond.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Vernon, Warren, and Marion. He is survived by his beloved wife Carol; his children Denise, Danny, and Annie; eight grandchildren—Sam, Alec, Ben (Alex), Connor, Miles (Rebecca), Aiden, Megan, and Molly; and eight great-grandchildren—Walton, Amelia, Ava, Aiden, Atlas, Addie, Mikaela, and Sophia.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Dan's journey continues in the presence of the Lord he served so faithfully. We will miss his humor, his wisdom, and his enduring love—but most of all, we will miss him.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
