Dale Joseph Van Name, 65 of Battlefield, passed away at 4:32 a.m. on July 15, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri.
He was born August 25th, 1959 in Nyack, New York to Robert and Ruth Van Name. Dale spent his childhood in New York State before moving to Oregon and lived for the last 39 years in Missouri. Dale proudly served in the U.S. Army. He spent most of his adult life behind the wheel proudly working as a truck driver for most of his career. He worked for many years at Steelman, Prime Truck Line as an owner operator, and Heartland Express. His work ethic, independence and quiet strength were hallmarks of a life lived on his own terms. He was truly proud to provide families with much needed goods traveling as an over the road trucker and hauled in all the lower 48 states.
While he was home, he enjoyed tinkering on almost anything and could be found most weekends with the garage door up working on something with his hands. He loved riding motorcycles, building and racing cars, woodworking, hunting, playing golf, and having man’s best friend around. There were very few years he didn’t have a dog by his side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Dale Van Name Jr. and his daughter, Andrea Poplin.
He is survived by his siblings Robert Van Name, Cheryl Smith, Billy Van Name and Donna Lagoda; children Brian Van Name, Kaila Van Name, Deborah Luper, son-in-law Don Luper, Nate Van Name, daughter-in-law Katie Van Name, Kayla Mason, Ray Allee, daughter-in-law Ellisha Allee, and Kyle Van Name; 17 grandchildren, Kateryna, Stephen, Paul, Jacen, Chance, Connor, Hayden, McKenzie, Roger, Rashele, River, Riya, Rylee, KC, Rosey, Harper and Rhett.
Visitation will begin at 9 am with a memorial service to begin at 10 am on Monday, July 28th, 2025, at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home: 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield, Missouri. Burial will be at Maple Park Cemetery located at 300 W. Grand St. Springfield, Missouri.
