Barbara "Bobbie" June Chartier

Barbara "Bobbie" June Chartier (née Roark), a beacon of love, style, and connection, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on June 24, 1930, in Springfield, Missouri, to Hortence and Desmond Roark, Bobbie's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with cherished relationships and unforgettable moments. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben, her parents, and her two dear sisters, Alice Jane Karchmer and Wanda Scott.

Bobbie's love story began in her hometown, where she spent her youth going to Fastnights pool with her sisters, sipping nickel pops at the corner drugstore, and watching shows at the Gillioz Theatre. It was during this vibrant time that she met Ben, a passionate and handsome young man attending Kansas University. Their undeniable connection blossomed as Ben traveled from Kansas City to Springfield for Friday night dates. At last, they were engaged, igniting a remarkable 60-year marriage.

Their union was a profound testament to unwavering commitment and deep affection. Ben's devotion was evident in every loving gesture, from quick kisses to playful embraces, embodying their enduring bond. Together, they embarked on a grand adventure, shaped by Ben's distinguished military career, which took them to 26 states and around the globe. They embraced diverse cultures and experiences, from Spain, Portugal, Poland, France, Italy, England, Hungary, to Scotland and Ireland, all while enjoying golf, shopping, and entertaining friends.

An icon of style and grace, Bobbie possessed an innate flair for fashion that could rival any runway. With her impeccable taste and keen eye for detail, she transformed every outing into a statement. Bobbie believed that fashion was not merely about clothing but a form of self-expression that radiated confidence. She could effortlessly mix classic pieces with contemporary trends, showcasing her unique sense of style.

Never one to shy away from a bargain, Bobbie relished the thrill of a good sale or deal, approaching shopping like an art form. Her memorable adage, "All you need is mascara, lipstick, and a good handbag," encapsulated her belief in the power of simplicity and sophistication. Whether she was hosting a lavish dinner party or enjoying a night out on the town, or playing a bridge or golf game with friends, Bobbie always exuded an effortless charm, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.

Bobbie's vibrant spirit truly shone through her passion for hosting and entertaining. Her home was a sanctuary of laughter and warmth, especially during the holidays when she transformed her surroundings into a festive wonderland. Her meticulous attention to detail in decorating for Christmas and throwing unforgettable parties reflected her love for bringing people together.

Her creativity extended beyond her wardrobe; she was a talented needlecrafter, creating beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren while mastering the art of needlepoint. With her characteristic phrase, "That was yesterday," she embraced change and focused on living in the present.

Her compassion extended into the community, where she actively engaged in various causes. In 1968, while living in Riverside, California, she became president of the Children's Home Society, demonstrating her commitment to child welfare. As a master gardener, she led the local garden clubs. She also engaged in civic affairs, serving on the boards of both local Democratic and Republican parties, and had the honor of hosting Bobby Kennedy during his campaign.

At the core of Bobbie's life was her devout Catholic faith, which she instilled in her grandchildren, nurturing a deep understanding of love and spirituality. Her bond with Ben was described as "sturdy and true," a partnership that weathered life's seasons and spanned time and space. She found comfort in knowing that Ben awaited her "at the end of the red carpet," ready for their eternal reunion.

Bobbie leaves behind a cherished legacy of love, grace, and inspiration. She is survived by her children, Mark Chartier and Aimee Chartier; her beloved grandchildren, Ashley White, Noah Russell, and Chelsea Walsh; and her adored great-grandchildren, Sterling Thomas, Finnegan White, Devyn Russell, and Mason Russell. She also leaves behind her special nieces, Jeanne Marie Pecha and Jennifer Dixson. Bobbie is now reunited with her beloved husband, Ben, who preceded her in death in June 2006, along with her parents and sisters.
