Obituary for Wilma Jean Morton (Metz)

Wilma Jean Morton (nee Metz), age 84, passed away peacefully in her Springfield, Missouri home on December 8th, 2020.

Wilma was born on August 12th, 1936 to William E. and Bertha (Kelley) Metz. After high school, she married and raised five children. At the age of 30, Wilma went to work for American Bag and Strapping where she spent the next 40 years as a devoted employee.

After retirement, she volunteered her time at St. Johns/Mercy Hospital where she delivered flowers to hospital patients. Wilma had a passion for cooking, and her home was the preferred gathering place for family members, as well as extended family members, and for holiday and special occasions. She also possessed a love of gardening, specifically flower gardening, and was always eager to share her knowledge on how to grow a beautiful landscape.

Wilma was preceded in death by her mother and father, Bertha and William Metz; her husband, Ralph Morton; one brother, Richard; her son, Danny Gene King; and a grandson, Jamie Gene George.

Wilma is survived by her children, Carol Sue (King) Beezley of Springfield, Missouri, Wanda Jean (King) Fowler and her husband Darrell of Springfield, Missouri, William Lee King of Brighton, Missouri and Bobby Gene King of Billings, Montana.

Wilma had five grandchildren, Trena Ann (Basham) McIntosh and her husband Mickey of Florida, Misty Dawn (Basham) Brower and her husband Josh of Elkland, Missouri, Lonnie Gene George of Springfield, Missouri, Jamie Gene George of Springfield, Missouri and Kirsten King of Springfield, Missouri.

Wilma had nine great grandchildren, Kyndall Gayle (Hood) Dinwiddie and her husband Zach of Nixa, Missouri, Mason and Weston Charles Hood, Elliott Michael and Luke Herrington Brower, Raven Haley McIntosh, Preslie Shea McIntosh, Blake and Skyler George.

For anyone who knew and loved Wilma and would like to attend, her Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, December 18, 2020 at White Chapel Memorial Gardens (Restoration Garden), 5234 W. Division Street in Springfield, Missouri 65802. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.
