Obituary for William George McGarity
Reverend William George McGarity of Peoria, Arizona passed away Tuesday morning, March 7,2023.
Reverend McGarity, otherwise known as Bill,was born April 8, 1937 in Russellville, Arkansas. The sixth of ten children to Herman Carlton and Flossie Mae (Hampton) McGarity. He is preceded in death by both parents, two brothers, Fred and Sam and one sister Dora Stewart. He was married to Mary Ann McGarity (Holt) on June 14, 1957. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2011. From that Union they have one daughter, Cindy and Mike Catron, four sons, Darryl McGarity and Beau Hickman, Duane McGarity and Edlyn, Danny McGarity and Jamie, and Donny McGarity and Carish, 16 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife Venita McGarity (Matheny) whom he married on July 31, 2012. He has one stepdaughter, Ronna Cook, one stepson Quintin Matheny, and 3 step grandchildren.
Reverend McGarity was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for 54 years. During Bill’s ministry he pastored in Arizona, South Texas, and Mid Missouri. He and Mary Ann also founded Lake Ozark Children’s Home of Eldon, Missouri, serving 600 + foster children and has many foster grandchildren as well. He will be missed by a host of Family and Friends.
Celebration of Life Service will be held March 25th 11:00 AM at the Family Life Assembly of God Church in Glendale, Arizona. Reverend Cliff Smalley will be officiating.
Burial Service will be held March 23, 2023, 11:00 AM at Blue Springs Cemetery in Eldon, Missouri, with Reverend Richard Orrell officiating. His burial will be under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, Springfield, Missouri.
