Obituary for William Dean "Bill" Childers

William Dean “Bill” Childers of Rogersville, Missouri passed away at 3:23 am Tuesday morning, January 7, 2020 in Cox South Medical Center at the age of 92.

Bill was born on September 27, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri to Lawrence and Clara (Green) Childers.

He attended school in Springfield and Ozark, Missouri. Bill was a World War II veteran who served as Military Police at Camp Bowie in Texas. He received a Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan for his service.

Bill married Delores Metheny who he met at the Tik Tok Café in Rockford, Illinois. Delores and Bill were married for seventy years and had three children. Bill had a career in sales and production services. He was a training specialist for Royal Typewriter teaching classes all over the United States. Bill was a prolific song writer who wrote 62 songs, published a book, and was worship leader in his church for over 40 years.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Clara Childers; brothers, James, John, Lawrence, Jr., and Joe; and a sister, Jewell.

He is survived by his wife, Delores; a sister, Betty Lancaster; his children, Jill Wheeler and her husband Perky, Stephen Childers and his wife Tammy and Cynthia Fernandez. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Childers and his wife Stefanie and Kyle Fernandez; his great grandchildren, Kirk Childers, Nick Childers, Juliet Hickey, Justin Hickey, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Friday, January 10, 2020 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E. Walnut Street in Springfield, Missouri with Reverend Timothy Lung officiating. Burial will follow at Holland Cemetery in Rogersville, Missouri where full Military Honors will follow the committal service.
