Obituary for Suzanne M. George

Suzanne M. George died from cancer on June 11, 2021 in her home in Columbus OH. She was born on July 16, 1953 to John and Teresa Auletto in Philadelphia, PA.

Sue grew up and attended public school in Newark, Delaware. She earned a bachelor's and master's degree at the University of Delaware and a PhD from Temple University. She was an elementary school teacher and early childhood special education administrator in Delaware Public Schools and assisted in the implementation of statewide educational programs for 15 years. In 1991 she began a second career in higher education, teaching 2 years at Lindenwood College in St. Louis, then at Missouri State University as a Professor of Early Childhood from 1993 until she retired in 2013.

Sue was a committed volunteer for many community organizations: CASA, Mercy Hospital Hospice and Gift Shop, Catholic Campus Ministries, and various cancer networks. She was an inspiring bicyclist, riding in fundraisers for Multiple Sclerosis and cancer research. She was also an avid sports fan, traveler, and lover of Cape May New Jersey.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband Vaughn George, her parents John and Terry Auletto, and her mother-in-law Hazel Love. She is survived by brothers Michael (Karen) of Novi, Michigan and John (Marybeth) Auletto of Columbus Ohio; nieces Amy Auletto (Chris Klager), Kayla Auletto (Aaron Letzeiser), Kacey (Kevin) Kaashoek, and Kristen Auletto (Brenton Windle); nephews Kevin and Sean Auletto; many devoted friends; and her beloved dog Katie.

A memorial service for Sue and Vaughn will be held at the O’Reilly Center Catholic Campus Ministry Center, Springfield, Missouri on July 10th, 11 a.m. Central Time. The service will be live streamed on the Ministry Center’s Facebook page: @MOstateCCM.
