Obituary for Sharon M. Gentry (Hofmann)

Sharon Marie Gentry went fishing Sunday morning, and we don’t expect to see her anytime soon.

She quickly found Bob, who had been waiting for her there on the shore for 44 years. And holy smokes, did they have a lot to talk about.

They spent days talking about Robin and Cynthia, their sweet little girls who grew to be exceptionally loving, kind, and hilarious just like the both of them...

Ben, Emily, and Brandon, the grandkids who’d have blown his mind… and beautiful ones they married; Valerie, Josh, and Ashley.

The cousins, aunts, uncles and friends that became a constant source of love and support….

The countless skiing trips with Theresa and the girls, the pile of bass fishing trophies she had won, and all those times she danced her butt off, despite his absence.

Of course, he’d been watching and laughing the whole time. But he couldn’t wait to tell her how proud he was of her.

She worked so hard.

She gave their girls everything they could have ever needed. But no matter how hard it was, she always found a way to have fun. And she always found something extra to give to others.

Bob couldn’t express enough how grateful he was to the people that showed up in her life. To Theresa and the fifty-years of friendship that kept her strong. To Kevin Welch and Steve Megahan for taking care of his girls. And he was especially proud of Cyndie and Robin’s daily visits that kept her company until her final hours.

Yes - Sharon Marie has surely gone fishin’, and we couldn’t be happier for her.

Though she is not here any more, she is very much alive in those she left behind. You will find her in Cyndie’s sweet smile, Robin’s laughter, Brandon’s piano, Emily’s gift giving, and Ben’s undying love for the outdoors.

Her legacy runs deep in the stories we will tell her great grandkids; Aubrey, Jude, Jobe, Jovi, Anna, Archer, Mia, Ellie, and in the lifetime of memories shared by Theresa, the Doyle family, her siblings and their spouses; Steven Hofmann & Sally Colussy, Maureen Summerfield, Dianne & Nick Bendas, and her Nieces and nephews Mark Summerfield, Dawn Eggers, Megan Summerfield, Natalie Wagner, Lynda Gentry, Nancy Mueller, Suzanne Hubbert, and Alicia Jones.

We will never forget her infectious laugh, genuine exuberance, and spirit that brightened every room she entered.

We will be forever inspired by her unwavering kindness, determination, and appreciation for even the smallest of joys.

We’ll relive her enthusiasm every time we set foot into Bass Pro, roll out the dough for spinach pie, or take that sweet bite of a Peeps marshmallow.

And though nothing could match her sweet smile, we will try to do our best impression of hers when times get tough.

To our mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend: We’re crying equal tears of sadness, and of joy for the time you must be having, until the day we can join you on that shore.

To honor grandma and her love for the outdoors, we are planting a tree at the Finley River Park, the spot that she taught us all to fish, and enjoyed for over 40 years. If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, make a donation to the Finley River Community Foundation Fund.

Please join us for a visitation, this Wednesday, March 2nd starting 10:30am at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, with a celebration of life service at 12pm. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
