Obituary for Sandra Davis (Smith)

Sandra S. Davis, 88, of Cutler, Maine passed away at Cox Health Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on August 5, 2023 after a brief illness. She was born July 28, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of C. Wilder and Barbara (Brown) Smith.
She graduated from Washington Academy in East Machias and Husson College in Bangor, Maine.

She was a charter member of the Order of Rainbow Girls in Machias, Maine and past matron of Sebosis Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Cutler. She had been active in town offices and had served on the local and SAD 77 School Boards as well as the Board of Trustees of Washington Academy.

In 1998 she moved from her hometown of Cutler, Maine, to Goodyear, Arizona where she spent 17 years before returning to Cutler in 2016. Beginning in 2016 she spent the winters in Branson, Missouri, with her daughter.

Her proudest accomplishments were her five children and their families. She made the most of the moments she had with each of them individually and treasured the times they could be together. She also held special relationships with her sisters-in-law, Valerie Maker and Sylvia Tracy; and with her sister’s children, Kim Fisher, Kevin Stimpson and Karen Corcoran. She valued community, church and her many longstanding, even lifelong, friendships.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Kendall and Cindy Davis of Wittmann, Arizona; four daughters and sons-in-law, Shelby and Steve Weems of Branson, Missouri, Alison and John Maxell of Chelsea, Maine, Cheryl and Jeff Siemers of Soldotna, Alaska, and Charlene and Jeremy Cates of Cutler, Maine; eleven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ronald A. Davis, her sister, Valerie Stimpson, and her daughter-in-law, Theresa Davis.

At her request, there will be no visitation. A committal service will be held at the Cutler Cemetery on October 14th at 2:00pm, to which the community is invited, and will be followed by a social gathering at Head of the Harbor Church in Cutler at 2:30 p.m.

Arrangements are under the care of McClure Family Funeral Home and the obituary will be posted for people to make comments and add photos.

In lieu of flowers, and with the understanding that “a mother’s hug lasts long after she lets go”, the family requests that you take a moment to curl up with a crossword, plant a peony (her favorite), treat yourself to spaghetti once a week, and always let your family and friends know you love them.
