Obituary for Robert Francis Harrington Sr.
Robert F. (Bob) Harrington, age 90, died May 30, 2019 in Sarasota, Florida.
He was born June 12, 1928 in Coffeyville Kansas, the eighth child of William and Anita Harrington.
Brothers Louis, Raymond, Joe, Bill, Ambrose (Mac) and Glen Harrington; and one sister Louise Harrington all deceased.
Bob graduated from Field Kindley Memorial High School in Coffeyville Kansas and attended Benedictine College in Atchison Kansas. He was called to active duty in the US Army in 1950 and served in Korean War with Heavy Mortar Company 223rd Infantry regiment 40th Infantry Division attaining rank of Master Sergeant. His decorations include Army Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge and United Nations Service Medal.
Bob married M. Jean Altom on May 2, 1952 in Coffeyville Kansas where they resided until moving to Springfield Missouri in 1972. She preceded him in death on Oct 8, 2008. They had three children; Robert F Harrington Jr and wife Janice of Springfield Mo, Julie (Harrington) Bales and husband Kevin of Sarasota Florida and Michael Harrington (deceased). Three grandchildren and four great grandchildren were a special blessing to “Boompa”.
Bob spent the majority of his career in sales starting with Harrington Sales Company Budweiser Distributorship in Coffeyville Kansas and retiring as an agent with Colonial Life and Accident Insurance in Springfield Mo. He had many friends and customers throughout Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri.
The last years of his life were spent in Sarasota Florida at Brookdale Midtown Assisted Living and later at Brookdale Deer Creek Memory Care Center. His daughter Julie was the driving force managing his care. The family would like to thank all those caregivers involved at both facilities. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Friday, June 7, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield with Msgr. Thomas Reidy celebrating. Burial will follow at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri at 1:00 pm.
