Obituary for Raymond Francis Mehl

Raymond Francis Mehl

March 27, 1936 - October 12, 2022

Born in Billings, Missouri, in his home to Martin & Mary (Ortwein) Mehl, he was the youngest.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings; Charlie, Dee, George and Joe, as well as several other family members whom he knew and loved.

Ray is survived by his nieces, great nieces, great nephews and Canadian cousins as well, as a host of friends and adopted family.

Member of St Joseph Catholic Church in both Billings and Springfield, Missouri.

Raymond Francis Mehl never met a stranger and never forgot a friend.
With a sharp mind, kind soul and incredible faith without end...
His quick wit and unforgettable laugh would surely bring a smile
many great stories to tell and he always did so "Uncle Raymond Style..."
A German through and through, he loved Sauerkraut and his talents he loved to share
Ray carved many ducks and hillbillies, in addition to monks that came with a prayer
Re-built kraut boards & garden hoes, made oodles of rain gauges & would sharpen your scissors or knife
An independent Batchelor, took care of his folks until they passed, had a girlfriend but never had a wife
There was a variety of jobs during those years when him and his sister each took a shift
Ran a filling station, put in years at McGregor's, Vermillion and 166 Auto Auction, to him life was a gift
From humble beginnings he grew up with patches upon patches on his overall jeans
And appreciated the simpler things in life such as instant coffee and a good ol' can of pork'n'beans.
He was an avid recycler of things other people might just throw away
Finding the coolest of treasures and bringing them home that was Ray...
Whether A road trip, A fishing trip or even A trip to Mama Jeans - he loved life with Zest
And if you ever spent time with him, he had a way of making a person feel mighty blessed...
traveled to many states as well as visiting Canada and Germany making memories and more friends
Ray loved fiddles and country music, collected matches and lots of maps, calendars & fountain pens
Rumor is he was once known as 'Dancing Ray' on the karaoke circuit & that brought him such joy
His voice may not have been the best, but with those moves, no doubt he was 'the real McCoy'.
Ray Served in the Navy Reserves & volunteered at the Prayer Room, Library & The Goodwill Store
He said he got to do just about everything in life he wanted and would ask for only one thing more
His request was honored for 1/2 a beer and a cup of ice cream shared with his nieces on his final day
May these memories always bring a smile and a big "Thank You God" for the gift of Ray...
