Obituary for Randall Gary McNichols

Randall Gary McNichols, loving husband and father, was unexpectedly called home to Heaven on Thursday, February 18, 2021, in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 70.

He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to William Clarence and (Ruby) June McNichols. At the age of 4, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where the desert forever captured his heart. He married Kerry Lynn Curtis on August 20, 1983, in Danville, California. Together they raised two beautiful daughters, Kourtney Lynne McNichols Brown and Natalie Anne McNichols.

As a teenager, Randall was passionate about building race cars and competing in drag racing events along with his older brother, Terry. Randall drove the final lap to win the Winter Nationals drag racing event in 1966. He often reminisced on the unique opportunities he had in his young life.

Randall worked in many different fields, namely over-the-road truck driving, Ironworking, and Operating Engineering. Owning his own trucking businesses was one of his greatest accomplishments and sparked his love of travel and the open road. As an Ironworker, Randall worked on the 1985 rebuilding of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. These career paths moved him and his family across the country from California to Utah, Arizona, and finally, Missouri.

Randall was an expert craftsman, which played a role in many of the homes he built for his family. He shared his gift with many friends, neighbors, and family members. It was evident he showed his love through acts of service. His retirement hobbies included researching real estate properties and keeping the weathermen in check.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and June. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kerry Lynn McNichols; his daughters, Kourtney Lynne Brown (Kurk) of Springfield, Missouri, and Natalie Anne McNichols of San Diego, California; two step-grandchildren, Skyllar Raye Brown and Keaton Douglas Brown; and his brothers, Terry William McNichols (Linda) of Tucson, Arizona and Dr. Timothy Kent McNichols (Becky) of Oro Valley, Arizona.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4-5:30pm on Friday, February 26, 2021, at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut, Springfield, Missouri 65806. This will be a come-and-go reception, with a time of sharing that will begin at 4:15pm.
