Obituary for Phyllis Ann McEntire

Phyllis Ann McEntire, 69, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 15, 2019 in Springfield, MO. She was born March 31, 1950 in Santa Ana, California. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Gerry Oxford (Darwin).

Phyllis was a retired high school English teacher who had a passion for classic literature and mythology. Later, as a driver, one of her fondest memories was teaching a young man, who worked at one of the truck stops, to read. Each time she passed through, she would stop and give him a reading lesson. She may have left the classroom, but she never left teaching. She became a foster parent to a number of teenagers and absolutely adored her grandchildren, each one holding a special place in her heart.

Survivors include her significant other Dale Mease of Reeds Spring, MO; two sons, Randie McEntire of Springfield, MO, Phillip McEntire and fiancé Melody Faith, of Springfield, MO; daughter Megan McEntire and significant other Derrick Berkland of Willard, MO; two sisters, Janelle Terry and husband Mike of Billings, MO, Kameron Skora and husband Ron of Springfield, MO; four step sons: Matthew Mease, Mark Mease, Luke Mease, John Mease of Reeds Spring, MO; nine grandchildren: Lindsey McEntire, Brandon McEntire, Andrew McEntire, Jacob Mease, Alex McEntire, Nick McEntire, Wyatt McEntire, Madison McEntire, and Norah Mease.

Phyllis’s family will hold a small celebration of life and spread her ashes on the farm where she grew up in Billings, Missouri.
