Obituary for Peggy Joan Jones (McElyea)

Peggy passed away at her home in Springfield, Mo in the comfort of her daughters’ care on March 6, 2021. She was born on December 12, 1940 in Rector, Arkansas to Nellie Marie Jones McElyea and Herschel C. McElyea. A devoted mother and grandmother who was always doing for her family with a happy heart. Her home was the place that family gathered often through the years.

She was a retired truck driver, logging well over six million miles over a 25-year career. Many of her children and grandchildren benefited from this as they were able to see many places in this country, and more importantly to spend many miles and hours with her. She loved music and enjoyed her computer where she created many years of calendars for her family that they will dearly miss. She loved playing games and family dinners.

Besides her parents, she joins in heaven her husband, Evan A. Jones, III; her daughter, Linda Jo Taylor; granddaughter, Dana Marie Walker; brothers, Danny McElyea and Joe McElyea; sister, Bobbie Noe; stepfather, Elton BJ Davis and stepdaughter, Mary (Squeak) Jones.

Surviving her are daughters, Cindy Hamlett and husband Bobby, Debbie Roberts, Kathy Barden and husband Bruce, and Billie Taylor; stepdaughter, Kathy Lucy and husband Mackey, and stepson, Quill Jones and wife Diana. She leaves thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters. And her two devoted companions, Peanut and Willa.

The family is eternally grateful to the Haven Hospice Ozark, Missouri, they are true angels on earth.

Visitation will be from 11 am until 12 noon on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home with services beginning at 12 noon with Pastor Dean officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
