Obituary for Mary A. Sturtevant

Mary (Maria Anna Carbonara) Sturtevant, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 19, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. She was born on March 25, 1948, to Patsy and Michelina (Mastrolonardo) Carbonara in Chicago, Illinois.

Mary was known for her caring nature and love for family and friends. She treasured her Italian heritage and being a twin sister. She was incredibly proud of her children and grandchildren. Mary enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, learning about history, and “treasure hunting” at garage sales and thrift stores. Mary and her seven siblings grew up in a tight-knit Italian household. She graduated from Addison Trail High School in Addison, Illinois. Following high school, Mary worked as a secretary for many years. She earned a degree as a paralegal and was active in her community. Her involvements include being a participant in the Citizen’s Police Academy and volunteering her time at the Verona Senior Center.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Patsy and Michelina Carbonara, and her brothers, Mike, Frank, and Joe Carbonara.

She is survived by her three children: Glenn Regan of Scottsdale, AZ, Karen (Scott) Breitbach of Dubuque, IA and their children Max, Hayes, and Quinn; and Tim (Lupe) Regan, of Scottsdale, AZ, and their children, Giselle, Alysandra, Cody, and Gavin. She is also survived by her four siblings: Terri Zielke, Anne Pagels, John Carbonara, Jean Carbonara, and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12 - 1 p.m. on Friday, February 24th, followed by a Catholic prayer service at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home, 500 E Walnut St., Springfield, Missouri.
