Obituary for Lance A. Fountaine

Lance A Fountaine was born on January 6, 1951, in St. Louis, Missouri to Ruth and Lawrence Fountaine. He grew up in Cedar Hill, Missouri with his brothers Larry and Gerry.

Following his time at Jefferson Junior College, Lance began a job driving a bus for Hillsboro Schools; an important role that he would find himself drawn back to later in life. Eventually he owned and operated his own business; Zephyr Gas Station and Towing in Dittmer, Missouri.

Never one to pass up an adventure, Lance would later relocate to take a job fighting forest fires in Montana and Idaho. He finally settled down in Tonganoxie, Kansas to take on his biggest adventure yet, raising his children Alicia and Ryan. There, in Kansas, is where Lance discovered his passion for aerial photography.

For the last 20 years of his life, Lance has lived with his partner Debra, in Battlefield Missouri. Together, they have embarked on many small adventures of their own. They have enjoyed camping, hiking, watching bluegrass bands and traveling. Lance has continued to pursue his passion for aerial photography, adding wedding photography to his portfolio as well. He has also continued to fill the need for school bus drivers in Springfield, driving a bus for SPS, and still making time to be an avid bicyclist.

Lance is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his partner, Debra Hinkle; his brothers, Larry Fountaine and Gerry Fountaine; his daughter Alicia Wechsler and her husband Steve; his son, Ryan Fountaine; his “stepdaughter,” Kami Oster and her husband, Bryon; his grandchildren, MaKenna, Mason, Mariah, Memphis, Eli and Theo; and his favorite dog Rosie.

He will continue to be loved and missed by his family and many friends whose lives he touched.

A celebration of his life – and his many adventures - will be planned in the future.
