Obituary for Julie Marie Summers (Baker)

Julie Marie (Baker) Summers of Springfield, Missouri passed away Friday, January 26th, 2024 surrounded by her whole family.

Born December 6th, 1944, she was the youngest of seven daughters to Francis and Blanche (Evans) Baker.

She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and St. Agnes Catholic High School, where she met the love of her life, Bill Summers.

On October 3rd of 1964, Julie and Bill married at St. Joseph Catholic Church. From this union, the two were blessed with three children – Angel Michelle, Shawn Michael, and Tobi Miguel.

Julie took great pride in being a homemaker, building a warm, joy-filled home that was comfortable and welcoming for all. She was known for delighting in the tiniest things and enjoying the simple pleasures in life. Yet, she ensured she made time for big adventures, such as cruises and European travel with Bill. Her hobbies ranged from rose gardening, to volunteering as a Girl Scout troop leader, to spending time with her pets, to serving in the Women’s Council of the Knights of Columbus; but her most highly-treasured time was spent beaming with pride next to her husband, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Blanche Baker; six sisters – Mary Blackman, Carolyn Williams, Juanita Perryman, Norma Kluhsman, Bonnie Pond, and Janie Hoefgen. She is survived by her husband of 59 wonderful years, Bill Summers; three children – daughter Angel Pruett and husband Tim, son Shawn Summers and wife Angie, and daughter Tobi Grady; six grandchildren – Emma Pruett and husband Nathan, Erica Lindsey and husband Drew, Molly Pruett and husband Abraham, Teague Summers, Brody Summers, Chase Grady; step-granddaughter Tori Freeman; two great-grandchildren – Beatrix and Margaux Lindsey; and 17 nieces and nephews.

A visitation will begin at 9:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri on Tuesday, January 30th. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am. The burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
