Obituary for Judy Frances Bartlett
Judy Frances Bartlett, 79, of Springfield, passed away on January 10, 2023, at Mercy Hospital. Judy is survived by her sister, Barbara; son, John, and his children Brittany and Tyler; daughter, Vanessa, and her husband Brian and their son Mason. Judy was preceded in death by her older sister, Idella Schmidt, of Nebraska.
Judy was born in Kansas City, KS, on September 3, 1943, to Evelyn Grace Shelley and Francis Raymond Wellner. Judy attended school in Wyandotte County, graduating in 1961. A year later, she and Wesley Veerhusen were married, and in 1969, she gave birth to a son, John Wesley. Two years later, Vanessa Lynn was born. Judy and Wes were married until he passed away in 1994. Judy remarried in 1997, to Ronald K. Bartlett, known as Keith to friends and family. They enjoyed their lives together until Keith’s passing in 2009.
Judy was always very determined, dedicated, and career minded, even from an early age. As a young woman, she worked as a Legal Secretary at Gulf Oil in Kansas City, before later working as a Court Reporter in Springfield for over thirty years. Before and after retirement, Judy traveled, attended plays and performances, visited art museums, and always enjoyed the companionship of her many friends and family. She was a longtime member of Messiah Lutheran Church, including singing in the choir, volunteering, and helping newcomers feel welcome and included.
A Celebration of Life for Judy will be held at 11:30 AM on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 925 E Seminole St, Springfield, MO 65807, followed by an interment at the Springfield National Cemetery with her first husband, Wesley Veerhusen.
