Obituary for John E. Prugger

On Tuesday Feb 16, 1932 at the family home in Springfield, Mo. a son, John, was born the forth child of John J. and Dimple I. Prugger the first boy in the family. He started his education at St. Joseph Catholic School and finished by graduating from Springfield Central High School. He began his career as a machinist apprentice for Frisco Railroad. After two years he became a certified Union Mechanist employed by the Frisco Railroad. After working two years, he was laid off and moved to Bellevue, Ne where he was employed by Tumpane Co. doing repair work for Offutt Air Force Base. After eight years he and his family moved back to Springfield, Mo. and he resumed his career with Frisco Railroad. After 42 years, John retired from Burlington Northern Frisco Railroad.

On Feb. 16, 1953, John married Dorothy A. Eidson at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was blessed with seven children. Throughout his life, John enjoyed many activities including fishing, hunting, water sports, and travel. He was active with the Catholic Church and is known for the many rosaries he made and shared with all local schools and missionaries worldwide.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Dimple I. Prugger, his brother, Charles, and his sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Jackie, and Joan, his sons, Richard and Joseph, his granddaughter, Kaitlan, and grandson, Stephen.

John is survived by his wife, of 70 years, Dorothy A., his sons, Robert, Michael, Charles, his daughters, Barbara, Linda, and Maria, his sister Marilyn, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, family friends, and loved ones.

A celebration of the rosary and visitation will be held at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home at 500 E. Walnut St. in Springfield Mo. Monday 05/01/2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with rosary service to begin at 7 pm. Always faithful to God and his Catholic religion, we will celebrate his life at a funeral mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2818 E. Bennett St. Springfield, Mo. on Tuesday 05/02/2023 at 10:00 a.m. followed by an interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery at 2400 W. Mt. Vernon Springfield, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
