Obituary for Joan Marjorie H'Doubler (Heyne)

Joan Marjorie H'Doubler, RN, BSN, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022, with her family by her side.

The daughter of Edna and Joseph Heyne, Joan was born in West Indianapolis, Indiana on May 8,1931. Graduating from Marquette Catholic High School in Michigan City, Indiana, Joan moved to South Bend, Indiana where she graduated from Holy Cross School of Nursing. She moved to Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and South Bend, before moving to Springfield, where she received her BS in Nursing at Drury College.

Joan served in the Medical Alliance for more than 36 years, serving as President of the Greene County Medical Society Alliance from 1996 - 1997. Joan received two prestigious MSMA Alliance state awards: the Jean E. Duensing Literary Award for her outstanding contributions for the Greene County Medical Society Alliance and for her work on the "Windows Across Missouri" cookbook. Following her state Alliance presidency in 1997, Joan continued to serve in leadership positions and on the Board of the Missouri Chapter of the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse and fundraised for the American Red Cross.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H'Doubler, MD, her son Gregory Steele, and sister Lorraine Olsen.

She is survived by her children Wendy and Kevin Steele, both of Springfield, granddaughters Stephanie Steele of Springfield, Ashley Steele of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and great-granddaughter Laila Oumlil of Springfield, a brother James Heyne of Michigan City, Indiana, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Church in Springfield. No visitation is planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or no-kill shelter of your choice.
