Obituary for Jerry Boone Savage

Jerry Boone Savage, a lover and a fighter, 83, of Strafford, MO, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on February 6th, 2021.

He was born in Springfield, MO to his parents Lawrence Lee Savage and Emma Opal Ikerd. Later he moved to St. Louis, MO where he met his loving wife Janet Carolyn Luechau. They were married on July 18, 1958 and had four children, Vicki, Cheryl, Brett and Eric. His family tree continued to grow and branch out to currently having 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was very proud and protective of his family. They meant so much to him.

Jerry, his brothers and father started a successful painting company called Larry Savage and Sons. They focused the majority of their work on bridges and large industrial buildings. Later, Jerry continued the business on his own doing residential homes and construction.

Jerry was known for his bright intoxicating smile and laugh that was contagious. He was always the center of attention and loved to tease and joke. He had a vibrant sense of humor that all of his children and grandchildren have definitely inherited. He enjoyed going out and dancing with his wife and friends. He never missed a family party even towards the end when he didn’t feel well he would still show up with that smile. Many years of family time was spent on the water at the lake and later In Mexico. Both traditions the family will carry on in his honor.

He had a big heart and an even bigger personality to match. He was a strong-spirited helper that would help those who needed it even if it meant taking risks. Everywhere he went he would make friends, he never knew a stranger. When a close friend that he had met traveling heard of his passing all they could say was “We have lost a Missouri legend”.

He is preceded in death by his parents Lawerence Lee Savage and Emma Opal Ikerd, his brother Micheal Samuel Savage, baby sister Charlotte, nephew Shad Savage and step-mother Flossie. Jerry is survived by his wife Janet Savage, brother Larry Savage, sister Joann Barrett, daughter Cheryl Knotts and her husband Matt Knotts, daughter Victoria DeToy and her husband Jeffrey DeToy, son Brett Savage and his wife Becky Savage, son Eric Savage and his wife Tammy Savage, grandchildren Andrea Singleton, Joel DeToy, Matthew DeToy, Lucas Smith, Cara Jones, Beth Butler, Keisha Mingus, Karissa Savage, Jonathon Savage, Holly DeWitt, Jessica Smart, Travis Savage, 20 great-grandchildren, plenty of nieces and nephews and countless other friends and family who loved him dearly.
