Obituary for James Richard Garrison

James Richard “Rich” Garrison, 62, of Springfield, Missouri passed away in his home on Sunday, October 27th, 2019.

Rich was born September 3rd, 1957 in Springfield, Missouri; He is the son of Dan and Ruby Garrison. Rich was the youngest of four children. When he was a boy he wanted to grow up to be a cowboy. His sister can still remember him dressing up in his cowboy hat and boots and riding on his horse. He loved spending time on the porch with his Granddaddy watching up over the hill waiting on a groundhog to pop up out of the ground so they could try to get a shot on it. Rich seems to have been an avid hunter and fisherman since childhood. He also inherited a love of gardening. Nothing could get him more excited than talking about planting and growing and then harvesting the many fruits and vegetables from his garden. Rich spent many years in the family trade, tiling. He was lucky enough to work with countless relatives and friends. Even though Rich had a lifelong career in tile he decided that it was time to try a new path. He worked at Wilson Creek Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (Springfield, MO) and was so happy to be involved in the many residents’ lives. It was easy for him to befriend them and sure hard to lose them when it was their time to pass on. Rich had a big heart; he loved to laugh and joke and had a smile that could light up a room. He enjoyed storm season and you could catch him in his lawn chair watching the clouds for tornadoes instead of taking shelter. Rich also enjoyed spending time with his many family members and friends.

Rich was proceeded in death by his parents Dan and Ruby Garrison, brother Larry D. Garrison, Sister and Brother in law Linda and Bob Rogers, and Brother in law Larry Yates.

Rich is survived by his children; daughter Jamie Garrison of Springfield MO, Son Michael Garrison and wife Jessica of Ellinwood, KS, 2 grandchildren Hunter and Wyatt Garrison both of Ellinwood, KS. Also surviving is wonderful sister Donna Yates, a very dear friend Deb and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews

We will celebrate Rich’s life and laughter with a memorial visitation to be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday November 9th, 2019 at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
