Obituary for Jacob "Jake" Gatten

Jacob “Jake” Gatten, Springfield, passed away October 28, 2023.

He was born December 24, 1989, to Phillip and Sharon Gatten. He attended Bishop McNamara High School class of 2008, Ozarks Technical Community College and Missouri State University.

Jake was a free-spirited music enthusiast who attended any music festival and concert he could. His lifelong love of music recently brought on an endeavor to become a DJ, which he quickly became immersed in.

Jake spent years working side by side with his father, learning construction, and took that experience venturing into his own company. Following in his father's footsteps, he became an experienced carpenter and foreman, churning out excellent work throughout Springfield.

Jake was a son to Phillip and Sharon, whom he considered his best friends, spending many nights and weekends together. Jake was a brother to 5 siblings who he kept laughing whenever they spent time together. He had a love for good food, good times at Table Rock Lake, and watching the St. Louis Blues games with friends. His life changed forever with the birth of his son, Abel. Abel recently celebrated his third birthday with his “Dada.” When it came to Abel, Jake became a better version of himself, making Abel his whole world. His last hours before passing were spent with his son.

Jake is preceded in death by his eldest brother, Brad. Jake is survived by his parents, Phil and Sharon; his siblings Alex (Kelsie), Marissa (Nicholas) Motyka, Lucas (Nicole), and Natalie; his son, Abel, and his nieces and nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to his son Abel’s college fund via Ugift529.com using code: 51N-F4K.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th, with the service immediately following at Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home (500 E. Walnut Street Springfield, MO 65806).
