Obituary for Irene Theresa Deckard (Barrett)
Our loving mother, Irene Theresa Deckard departed her loving family on June 20, 2023.
Irene was born in Ossian, Iowa on August 25, 1934 to Rosella and Morvin Barrett. She married Willard Preston and they had three children, Debbie (David) Kallam (Miller, MO) Linda (Ed) Stanton (Poneto, IN) and Sheryl (Michael) Manning (Ash Grove, MO). She raised her children with love and devotion.
Irene loved many things in life. She loved cooking, coffee and ice cream. She loved fishing, garage sales and decorating for Christmas. She loved her animals, whether it be one of her many dogs or her Kitty. She loved her family fiercely, always bragging on one of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. But most of all, Irene loved God and had a faith that carried her. Life wasn’t without its hardships, but with her faith Irene endured. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and faith through her family and those who knew and loved her.
Surviving along with her three daughters are her six grandchildren, Chris Smitley, Teresa (John) Willson, Tosha (Cliff) Thomas, Rena (Travis) Stanton, Lindsay (Charlie) Buckley and Nick Manning; six great grandchildren: Tre, Brady, Kenlie, Preston, Melanie and Ryan; and one great great grandchild, Grayson. Irene is also survived by her loving baby brother, Wayne (Helen) Barrett.
Irene is preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Willard Preston; her brother, Bud Barrett, and her grandson, Jason Stanton.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday, August 26, 2023 St. Agnes Chapel: 533 S. Jefferson in Springfield, Missouri, with Father Lewis Hejna officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
