Obituary for Hattie L. Barnes-Parker (Bush)

Hattie Louise Barnes Parker, 98 years and 10 months, of Springfield, MO, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 20th, 2022.

She was born in January 1924 in Hayti, MO to Lacy Jackson Bush and Pearl Mae Morton Bush. She graduated from Hayti High School. In 1941, Hattie married Homer Wilson Barnes. They had four children.

While living in Hayti, Hattie worked at the Hayti Water Department and taught grade school. After moving to Cape Girardeau, MO she worked at Sears, Golightly Electric, and Cape Central Airways. She was active in the First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau. In the late 1960’s, Hattie and Homer bought the National car rental franchise in Cape Girardeau, MO. In 1980, Hattie relocated to Springfield, MO, where she managed the National car rental agency at the Springfield Regional Airport.

Hattie married Wayne G. Parker in June 2007. They met forty one years ago and had many beautiful years together. They enjoyed ballroom dancing, playing cards and dominoes, and traveling the world.

Hattie was a “people person” with a generous heart for loved ones and strangers. Her nieces and nephews thought of her as a second mom. She was known for going above and beyond to help people in need whom she met at the airport, at times bringing them home with her.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Lacy Jackson Bush and Pearle Mae Morton Bush; sisters Carrie Blackwell and Mary Francis Huey; brother Lacy Junior Bush; sons, Lanny Wilson Barnes and Larry Wilson Barnes; grandson, Carl Gregory Barnes; great granddaughter, Marisa Ramsey; and niece, Trena Blackwell Novak.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne G. Parker; her daughter, Deronda Ann Redden and husband, Gary; Patty Estel Barnes (wife of deceased son, Lanny Wilson Barnes); daughter, Jana Louise Wolfe and husband, Jim; and Beverly Barnes (wife of deceased son, Larry Wilson Barnes). She is also survived by ten grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Hattie’s big heart, quick wit, and feisty personality will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A springtime celebration of life will take place in Springfield, Missouri.
