Obituary for Harry Leon Ellis

Harry L. Ellis, 94, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away Sunday March 5, 2023 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

He was born October 24,1928 in Willow Springs, Missouri. He moved to Springfield at age 12, graduated Class of 1945, and received his degree at Southwest Missouri State University. Harry served in the Air Force in Korea for 4 years. Upon his return, he attended Baylor Medical School. He met his future wife Suzie, and they were married in 1956. Suzie helped Harry finish up the final 2 years of medical school in Houston, Texas. Then they moved to St. Louis, Missouri where Harry worked at Barnes Hospital, first as an intern for 1 year, and then as a resident for 4 years. During this time Suzie worked as a secretary in Houston and St. Louis where she qualified for her P.H.T. (Putting Hubby Through). They had 3 boys: Scott, Steve, and John. Harry loved to play golf, he played tennis, enjoyed jogging and other forms of exercise. He loved being a doctor and helping people that were sick and needed help.
He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his 3 siblings and his son, Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Suzie; his children, Steve (Tasha), and John; along with several grandchildren, Jose, Emily, Olivia, Luke and Matthew.

A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Tuesday March 14, 2023 at South Street Christian Church, 500 South Ave. Springfield, Missouri under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home.
