Obituary for Gloria Jean "Daisy Mae" Grimsley

On Wednesday, March 23, 2022, Gloria Grimsley, also lovingly known as Daisy Mae, passed away at the age of 65. She left behind her most beloved, Spangle, and her daughter Amanda May, and her brother, Roger Grimsley. Her parents, Johnny and Lattie Grimsley of Owensboro, Kentucky, precede her in death.

From Owensboro, Kentucky, her loving heart began touching lives from early on and continued to do so throughout her entire life journey. It was her gorgeous smile and endless outpouring of love that has touched us all so deeply. We celebrate her life in the way in which she touched us all. We are in awe of how many hearts she has shared her love with. We are in awe of her beautiful nature and ability to understand each of us and our needs. We are truly in awe of her willingness to share her love for the Lord so openly and in such a way that it brought us all closer to Him, too. She has always been a good and faithful servant. We pray her journey home is embraced by the greatest love of all.

The laughter and mischievous joy she brought throughout the clown community was endless! Oh, how she could perform! Her glowing pink pantaloons and bright pink curly hair brought notice to that sweet little pink daisy dawned upon her nose. Children and adults alike laughed and delighted in the joy she brought to them. The happiness she created when clowning around brought all of us a lifetime of happy memories. Her clown community and those she touched can’t help but find them smiling in the remembrance of the joy she brought them. What a gift she was to this beautiful community. The love that has come from this community through this difficult time is enormous. There’s a hole left behind now, and a ray of light shines brighter of her memory within their events. She was a bright shining star among them.

If she could be described by a single word it is clearly, LOVE. Her love for the Lord, her family, and friends seemed to be without boundaries or measure. She listened with an open heart and her words were always softly spoken as if it were to each and every one of us personally. She made us feel beautiful, but really, that feeling came from the purity of her kindness. She is the epitome of beauty and kindness and love, all wrapped up in a single soul.

Her love of Christmas and the pure joy it brings to the world delighted her inner child with immense happiness. Every year, she waited with great anticipation to dawn her gorgeous Mrs. Claus gown and to bring the magic of Christmas to life for families and children across the nation. She would stand proudly beside her Santa and bring love and attention to each of the children. The stories she would tell about her days in the red dress were always so heartfelt and joyous. Being Mrs. Claus seemed to fill her heart so she could pour all of that love and joy back out to the world all the rest of the year. The entire Claus community grieves this loss. She is a sister, a friend, a partner, and a part of who we are.

She had an uncanny way of keeping Spangle “in his box” so to speak, and for this, he is eternally grateful. Her dedication to him was proof of her love. She spoke of Spangle with a depth that can only come from loves truest form. He was “her everything”, as she would often say in moments of truth. There isn’t anything that can fill the hole as huge as the one she has left in his heart, and all of ours. She was and is Spangle’s whole world and will forever be “His Angel”.

May the Lord keep you wrapped in his arms, Daisy Mae. You are forever loved.

A memorial service will be held at 7 pm Tuesday April 5, 2022 in Herman H. Lohmeyer Chapel 500 E. Walnut Street with Pastor Phillip Wright officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
