Obituary for George William Klesel

George W. Klesel, age 86 of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5th while residing at The Fremont Assisted Living.

George was born May 19, 1935 in Garner, Iowa. He was the son of George and Josephine Klesel and husband to Geraldine (Geri). Before her passing, George and Geri were married for 64 years. George was very involved with Immaculate Conception Catholic church, a chaplain at Mercy Hospital and retirement centers throughout Springfield, as well as a Hospice volunteer. He served his country in the United States Army and retired as a Command Sargent Major. He did not know a stranger and even played Santa Claus along with his wife as Mrs. Claus just to watch the wonder in the faces of the children.

George is survived by his son George (Tony) Klesel and wife Laura; three daughters, Terry Looker and husband Rick (Deceased), Pat Clarke and husband Dave, Michelle (Shelly) McCreery and husband Larry. Also survived by nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Fremont Assisted Living and The Gardens Assisted Living where George resided for the last few years. We also want a big thank you to go to Terrace Hospice for their compassionate care and comfort they provided.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church: 3555 S. Fremont Ave, Springfield, Missouri. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm the same day at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery: 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, Missouri. Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home will be facilitating the arrangements.

In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Fraternal Organization.
