Obituary for Elston Irvin Rupert Sr.

Elston Irvin Rupert Sr., CSM Retired, went to see Jesus on March 28th, 2020. He was a resident of Springfield, MO since 1981. Elston was born September 28, 1926 in Newburg, MO the son of Ralph Rupert and Loretta (Lane) Rupert. He was married to Ruth (Truesdell) Rupert on October 24th, 1948 in Concordia, KS.

He served in the United States Army for 4 active years and 24 years in the reserves, where he retired as a Command Sergent Major. He also worked for the Frisco-Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad for 30 years, where he also retired. After retiring, he enjoyed working in his wood working shop and painting houses.

Elston is survived by his wife, Ruth; his eight children, Elston Jr, of Semmes, AL, Ruthie Shelburn (David) of Springfield, Mo, Ralph of McCalla, AL, Anthony (Debbie) of Bessemer, AL, Cecilia Goodwin of Lakeview, AL, Mary Harris (Jay) of Lenexa, KS, Renee Rupert, and Gwendolyn Barrett (Kevin) of Reeds Spring, MO; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Elston enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and crafts. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield. He was involved with Knights of the Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight.

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic Mr. Rupert’s Funeral Mass will be privately held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield. Burial will be private as well at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
