Obituary for David Lester Haynes

David L. Haynes, 66, Springfield, Missouri, passed away at 6:48 PM Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at South Cox Hospital. He left this world peacefully, surrounded by loving family.

He was born January 17, 1956 at Edwards Air Force Base, California to Doyne and Patricia Haynes. He attended Ava High School, class of 1975, and Rutledge College 1987, where he earned an Associates Degree. He also attended Southwest Missouri State University from Fall 1987 to Spring 1993.

David was a Veteran, enlisting in 1975 in the U.S. Army. He served for 3 years, earned an Expert medal with the Hand Grenade and Sharpshooter with the M16 Rifle. He served 1 year and 2 months in foreign service in Germany and returned to civilian life with an Honorable Discharge.

David enjoyed life. He was an avid sports fan, especially football and wrestling. He was also a deeply religious man. He was a beloved member of MidTown Recovery Ministries in Springfield for 14 years, always referring to them as his “church family.”

He was preceded in death by his parents Doyne and Patricia, and his sister Mary Louise.

He is survived by his sister Diane Shortt and husband Hillis; sister Anna Haynes Coe; brother Michael Haynes and wife Linda; nieces and nephews Sheilah Shortt, Farron Shortt and wife Nacole, Michelle Lee and husband Danny, Justin Shortt and wife Karen, and Sara Poekel and husband Max; and 12 great nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM Saturday, February 26, 2022 at MidTown Recovery Ministries, 749 N. Weaver, Springfield, Missouri with Minister Buddy Pillmore officiating.

A small family ceremony will be held to bury David’s ashes at Whites Creek Cemetery east of Ava Missouri at a later date.
