Obituary for Daniel Nathan Crowell

Daniel Nathan Crowell passed away on February 4th, 2020 in the loving arms of his daughter, Amy, at Mercy hospital in Springfield, Missouri. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy, Oregon at 11am Saturday March 7, 2020 with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 10:30am. Burial with full military honors will take place immediately after Mass at Helvetia Community Cemetery in Helvetia, Oregon. A reception will follow at Helvetia Community Church.

Dan was born on September 17th, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Lee and Marian (Hartman) Crowell. When he was a small child they moved to West Union, Oregon. Dan attended Hillsboro High School and graduated in 1959. After graduation, Dan entered the Army and spent the next few years in Germany. He was honorably discharged upon his return home.

Dan attended Oregon State University after his time in the military and graduated with a business degree in accounting.

After college Dan married Dolores Guenther and they raised their children in Banks, Oregon. Later in life Dan moved to Phoenix, Arizona and then to Fordland, Missouri where he purchased a home on 23 acres to pursue his hobbies.

He enjoyed sports and was actively involved in his children’s sporting activities. He loved fishing and spending time outdoors. He spent many hours restoring older model tractors and showing them in parades. His tractor projects were quite impressive; he was meticulous to detail and had every reason to take pride in his work.
Dan was proud to be a United States Veteran and loved the time he spent protecting our country.

In his final days, Dan developed a close relationship with Jesus Christ under the spiritual care and guidance of Frs. Jerome Amaechi and Juan Gonzalez; he was baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church on January 16th, 2020 and received the last rites before passing. This was a great source of comfort, hope and peace for Dan.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents (Lee and Marian) and his granddaughter Rachel Crowell (Dan and Stacey).

He is survived by his ten children, each of whom he loved very much: Linda Graf (Ed), Carrie Aranda, Jane Bicandi (Mike), Daniel Crowell (Stacey), Amy Schillereff (Jeff), Heidi Wood (Jeremy), David Crowell (Ursula), Steve Crowell (Dena), Kristin Tangney (Michael), and Molly Gardner (Bruce), 60 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the veteran’s charity of your choice.
