He considered a religious vocation, beginning his studies for the priesthood at Our Lady of the Ozarks seminary in Carthage, and then, considered brotherhood in Illinois, where he decided to return to a lay life. When his family decided to move to Springfield in the early 1950s, he went to work for Hartley Monument Company. In Springfield, he met a sister's classmate, Alvina Gregoroski. Following his time in the service, he and Alvina moved to Thomasville GA where Damian continued working in the monument business, cutting and lettering with a hammer chisel and sandblast machines. They returned to the Ozarks, and he went to work for Bergman-Miller Monument Co. in Seymour MO, where he also worked for the local ambulance service. They had one daughter. He and Alvina opened Tasset Monument Company on Scenic Ave., in Springfield and then moved to Nixa, when they purchased Nixa Monument Company in July 1969. They ran the business until Damian retired in 1991.

Damian enjoyed fishing, floating and hunting. He was an outdoors guy. He and Alvina enjoyed camping and traveling around the United States and went on many ocean cruises. He loved playing cards, especially Cribbage. His current hobby was flying RC airplanes at the Lake Country Soccer Dome with his flying buddies.
