Obituary for Christine Mary Bynum

Christine Mary Bynum, 79, of Springfield, Missouri died Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Mercy Hospital due to Covid19, with family present; those unable to be with her said their goodbyes by phone.

Christine, born August 8, 1941 in Elyria, Nebraska, was the youngest child of Tom Gregoroski and Josephine Baran Gregoroski. She was married to the late Dr. Jay Bynum on August 19, 1963 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield.

A lifelong devout Catholic, Christine graduated from Saint Agnes High School and, after college, worked in the Springfield Catholic School System for years as a teacher at Saint Joseph. She was a very active member of Sacred Heart Parish for over 50 years, where she especially enjoyed attending the quilting meetings and senior breakfasts. One of her favorite bible passages was Joshua 24:15, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

She also loved playing bingo, going to casinos and scouring the city for garage sales. She was a fan of fajitas, Dancing with the Stars, and had seen every episode of Doc Martin. She imbibed in an occasional margarita and made use of her limited vocabulary of swear words when irritated.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Ted.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Love (Danny), her son, Christopher Bynum (Lynn), and her daughter, Sarah Nelson (Tom Stivers), grandchildren Alec, Hannah, Lily, Krystee, Colten, Joey, and Jamie, and great-grandchildren Eadlin, Gannon, and Mackinzee. She will also be dearly missed by her siblings, Alvina Tasset (Damien), Evelyn Anderson (Robert), and Carl Gregoroski, as well as many nieces, nephews, students, and friends.

Due to recommended social distancing, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. The burial at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery will be attended only by immediate family members. A remembrance and celebration of life will be held at a future date.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Herman H. Lohmeyer Funeral Home in Springfield, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to consider making a memorial donation in Christine’s name to Saint Joseph Catholic Academy, 515 W Scott St, Springfield, MO 65802.
