Obituary for Cherrilyn Kay Overlease

Cherrilyn Kay Overlease, age 74, passed away at her home in Miller, Missouri, and went to be with the Lord in Heaven on March 14th, 2024.

She was born on December 16, 1949, in Oxnard, California, the daughter of Gilbert E. and Frances June (Cagle) Gooch.

Cherri is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Gooch, and her son, Darin Organ.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Joe Overlease; her two sons Michael Organ from Texas, Bryan Organ (Julie), from Washington, stepdaughter Debbie Nateghi (David) from Missouri, along with her sister Connie June Knight from Oklahoma.

Cherri adored her 7 beloved grandchildren and prayed for them often: Abby, Jake, Sarah, Lucy, Olivia, Ryan and great granddaughter, Aria. She has an abundance of nieces and nephews.

Cherri was raised and attended school in Oklahoma. She enjoyed reading her bible, baking, gardening, sewing and was very talented at quilting. Cherri had the most beautiful smile and gave the best hugs.

Something fun to know about Cherri, she and Joe grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and were childhood friends and high school sweethearts. Both grew up having Cocker Spaniels as family pets. Soon after they were married, they re-discovered their love and passion for the American Cocker Spaniel and devoted decades of caring for, along with raising many beloved “wiggle butts” as Cherri fondly referred to them. Her passion of wanting others to experience the love and loyalty of owning cocker spaniels was known to many.

She was loved by her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

A memorial visitation will begin 1 pm followed by a celebration of Cherrilyn's life at 1:30 pm Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home 500 E. Walnut Street, Springfield. The committal service will follow at 3 pm in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery 5201 S. Southwood Road Springfield.
