Obituary for Bonnie Ellen Johnson

Bonnie Ellen Johnson, age 74, passed away peacefully May 3rd, 2022.

Bonnie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She also loved people and to know her was to be part of her family. She was love, grace and spice all wrapped up into one package. Filled with positivity and spunk but, also not afraid to tell you exactly what she thought about any given subject. Her honesty always came from a place of love and compassion for all living creatures. It’s all of those characteristics that made her an incredible human being and a true example of who God would like us to be.

Bonnie was a true Missourian, who appreciated the natural beauty of this state. But, she also loved spending time in the mountains of Arkansas and on the beaches of Florida. She considered herself an “outdoorsy” person and if the weather was at least decent, one could guarantee she was outside enjoying God’s landscape.

She loved music and could be found listening to artists such as Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Jackson Browne, Bruce Springsteen, Needtobreathe, John Mayer, Dawes, Billy Joel, Elvis…this list could go on and on but you get the idea. Music was a big part of her life and who she was.

She was born in Windsor, MO.- where she grew up a “farm girl” and attended both grade school and high school. Bonnie then attended and graduated from Southwest Baptist College. Post-graduation, she began her career as a child abuse investigator for the Missouri Division of Family Services. Immediately after her honeymoon, she and her husband co-managed a juvenile detention center as head houseparents in Jefferson County. A year after their son was born, they moved to Springfield, MO where she eventually became a manager/buyer for Wickman Gardens.

Throughout her life she was a regular supporter of Children International, Wounded Warrior Project and Samaritan’s Purse, as well as local charities including Springfield Dreamcenter and The Kitchen.

Survived by her husband Daniel Roy Johnson, her son Caleb Levi Johnson, daughter-in law Lindsay Beth (White) Johnson, her two grandchildren Benjamin Lucas Johnson and Berkley Ellen Johnson, and her sister Carolyn Sue (Miller) Dotson.

Preceded in death by her father, Wilford Allen Miller and her mother, Gladys Irene (Rothenberger) Miller.
