Obituary for Billie Gerald Gericke

Billie G. Gericke was born January 10, 1930 at Rescue Missouri. He went to local one room schools and graduated from Lockwood Missouri High School.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean war. In 1954 he married Mary E. Thieman.

After his military service he worked on B52 airplanes for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas. He went to work for Philco Corp. as a civilian, at an Air Force base in Michigan.

When the missile program began, he went back to Boeing and worked on several missile programs in Seattle Washington.

In 1970 the family decided to move back to Missouri to be closer to family and settled in Springfield, Missouri. In 1970 he and Mary purchased the sandwich bar in the Landers Building on the square. In 1976 they purchased the Taylors Drive In and loved serving the public the best hamburgers around. As time passed someone interested came along and we decided to sell. Billie and Mary were retiring and it lasted 6 months and on to the next gambit.

They bought a 190-acre farm north of Halltown and resided there with our herd of 75 cows and babies. After a heart attack we finally retired and after selling the land, which we could not take care of, we moved back to Springfield, Missouri.

We spent any time we had available volunteering around town such as Mercy, Dickerson Park Zoo,and Council of Churchs.

Bill leaves behind his wife, Mary; daughter, Tina and her husband Ken Myhan and grandsons, Richard, Kevin, Auria, and Brandon. A nephew, Gerald Sheppeard and his wife Linda. Many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Trudy; his parents, Golda and Orville; his sister, Doris & Harold Sheppeard; and a nephew Carl Sheppeard.

He will be sorely missed by his family and those who knew him.

The family will have graveside services sometime in the future.
